Empowering UMass Women

Our Mission

Women for UMass supports all UMass Amherst women in achieving personal, professional, and academic success through networking, learning, leadership, and the strength of our community.  

Women have long been at the center of the university’s history and success. WFUM continues this legacy by supporting UMass Amherst-affiliated women at all life stages. 

We seek to engage 162,000+ alumnae and students around the world in the life of the university and connect them with each other through programming and philanthropic efforts that highlight women’s contributions to UMass Amherst’s educational mission.  

By providing access, support, and opportunities to grow, WFUM fosters the positive impact of women supporting women and nurtures the next generation of female leaders at UMass.

We create opportunities for learning, networking, and growth. 

WFUM welcomes all cis and trans women, as well as nonbinary people who are comfortable in women-centered spaces and others interested in advancing opportunities for women. 

A Message from WFUM Chairwoman Janie Kaplan ’79 

I am a proud UMass Amherst alumna, who graduated from the Isenberg School of Management. I enjoy being part of WFUM because it is all about women supporting women. We believe strongly in the connection and community we can create together. We are proud to support current students with our grants program, funding on-campus projects and programs that impact women. We also host events that bring UMass women together to empower and uplift one another.  

Being an alumna of UMass, you are already part of our community. I encourage you to get involved in whatever ways you can. Whether it be joining a committee, attending events, or simply connecting with our members – we’d love to have you and are here to support you.
